The Urban Charter Schools Collective (UCSC) is a nonprofit public benefit corporation.  It is named in honor of the late Lila Jacobs, a CSUS professor who trained and encouraged her students in the College of Education’s Urban Cohort program to make a difference in the lives of children. UCSC was incorporated with the California Secretary of State on October 29, 2009.



The UCSC purpose is to help community groups promote, start, and operate effective and innovative public charter schools serving underserved elementary-aged students in Sacramento.  In that role, UCSC is like a set of training wheels on a bicycle.  Yav Pem Suab Academy is our first charter school.  It opened during the Lunar Year of the Tiger.
